Our latest visit to the new Loopy Shrew was for our staff Christmas dinner in their gorgeous (and rather chic) private dining area above the main dining room. The previous two meals were spur of the moment weekend evenings for the bar menu. The problem I have is where to start - The Loopy Shrew is not just one thing. Not tried it yet, but looking forward to the full English breakfast one morning soon, but just inside the front door there’s the relaxed coffee/tea area. Up a couple of steps and you can stand or perch on tall stools by the bar or take a table in the midst of the hubbub.
Beyond that there’s a cosy snug area before you turn the corner to the restaurant. There’s also an outdoor area that will be fab when the sun shines. This place is relaxed, fascinating, the staff are friendly and flexible, and the food is gorgeous. Traditional Christmas dinner with the staff was superb and my cheese board was not just tasty but an inspired presentation. Don’ miss the cheesy bites and the little sausages on the bar menu.
Our next visit is for Sunday lunch with the family - they do a traditional roast where you can have two meats on a board so someone can carve like Dad did at home, and the veg so you can help yourself. Perfect for a disparate mix of ages, Mothers and outlaws!
